The Garrett College Adventure Sports Institute will join forces with the Garrett County Health Department and Board of Education on a new initiative. Funded through a grant from United Way of Garrett County, the agencies will develop after school activities for Grantsville and Accident Elementary Schools and Southern Middle School.
The Maryland General Assembly is facing a Friday deadline to approve a plan to redraw the boundaries of state legislative districts, or the plan proposed last month by Governor Martin O'Malley will automatically take effect. Republicans have criticized the plan for weakening the influend of GOP dominated areas of the state.
An Anne Arundel County Judge has ruled that a measure allowing in-state tuition for illegal immigrants is subject to referendum. A petition drive by opponents of the measure has already been certified as successful by the state election board. Attorneys for a group fighting the referendum are appealing the judicial decision.
